Support the Troops

Supporting those whom support us all…

I get asked all the time if there is anything people can send me or anything I need, and it is a truly beautiful thing to know how lucky, and blessed, I am to be surrounded by such a strong and supportive network of people. But there are a lot of different ways you can support me, or the rest of the troops, other than sending me something directly.

Below, I have included a list of links demonstrating several different ways by which you can be supportive of those in our Nation’s military. There are a million different charities and organizations out there to give to, which claim to support the troops, and I can’t tell you which ones are legitimate and which ones are simply opportunists. However, the links below are websites, companies, or organizations, all of which I have recieved direct benefit from, or I am involved with myself. Please be generous, and give what you can to make the sacrifices made by our Nation’s military a little less difficult.

Give in support of…

[MORALE & WELFARE]

- The United Service Organizations

The USO is the single organization from which myself and my family have received the most direct benefit.

“Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. The USO, a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit organization, relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to support USO activities.” [from USO website]

- Cup of Joe for a Joe

Buy a Cup of Joe for a Soldier Serving Far From Home And Have It Delivered With Your Own Personal Note of Encouragement…” [from Green Beans website]

Green Beans World Cafe is like the Starbucks of deployed locations. There has been one virtually everywhere i have been with the military.

- Any Airman

Send a care package to an Airman in need, and get help on what to send and where to send it.

“All the Airmen involved in this effort are military volunteers stationed in areas that are in harm’s way. You send your support (letters and/or packages) addressed to them and when they see the ‘Attn: Any Airman®’ line in their address they put your letters and packages into the hands of Airmen who don’t get much or any mail first. Everything is shared.” [from AnyAirman website]

[SUPPORTIVE LEGISLATOIN]

- Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

“IAVA has become a driving force behind groundbreaking legislation affecting troops, veterans, and their families. From the passage of the landmark new GI Bill to historic budget increases for the VA, IAVA’s aggressive advocacy has yielded unprecedented legislative victories for our country’s newest generation of veterans.” [from IAVA website]

[MEDICAL SUPPORT & RESEARCH]

- Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

The IFHF is an amazing organization that is doing brilliant work in support of wounded and killed military members and their families.

“As the United States continues to suffer injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as the War on Terrorism proceeds, many more military personnel and their families will need your help. Please join us in this very special effort to help support our military heroes who have sacrificed so much in service to our nation by contributing to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. 100% of donations go directly to the Fund’s programs. The Fund does not deduct any portion of contributions for administrative costs; all costs are paid by the Fund’s Board of Trustees and from interest earned on invested funds.” [from IFHF website]
